Gray hair dead? Try, all hair as ';dead'; except for the roots of hair follicles that continue to grow in a cyclic manner that eventually stops and the hair falls out regardless of the color of the hair.

Now, what really caused us to get grey hair is that the hair follicle stopped producing melanin that gives it it's color. The reason for the termination of melanin varies from heredity, stress, smoking, etc.If gray hair is really ';dead'; why does it grow. What really causes us to get grey hair?
Your hair, as well as your fingernails, are and have always been dead.. they are dead cells that are exiting your body. (it's also protein. that's why it burns easily and is very strong)

Hair grows white when the color pigment (melanin) ceases to be produced in the hair follicle and small air spaces take its place. Check out http://useinfo-grayhair.blogspot.com/ for more info on gray hair.
Hair is dead... even when it's not gray.
