My Golden Retreiver is only 6 years old and he's already developed that gray mask on his face that retreivers get. Is this normal? What age is normal for golden retreivers to start getting gray hair on their face?
5-6 years is when most dogs start to get grey. They are completely gray (face) by 10 sometimes. What age is normal for golden retreivers to start getting gray hair on their face?
I DON'T THINK THAT THERE IS A ';NORMAL'; AGE FOR GREY HAIR ON A DOG, JUST LIKE THERE IS REALLY NO SET AGE FOR HUMANS TO DEVELOPE GREY HAIR. I HAVE A FRIEND WHO IS IN HIS EARLY 30'S WHO IS ALMOST COMPLETELY GREY, WHILE MY FATHER DID NOT BEGIN GETTING GREY UNTIL HE WAS IN HIS LATE 60'S. THE SAD FACT IS, HOWEVER THAT LARGE DOGS TYPICALLY HAVE A SHORTER LIFE SPAN THAN SMALLER BREEDS. THIS BEING SAID, SIX IS STILL YOUNG FOR A GOLDEN, AND AS LONG AS HE RECEIVES PROPER CARE, HE MAY STILL HAVE QUITE A FEW YEARS AHEAD OF HIM!
yes its normal
dog go gray at different times just like
people my golden is about 8 and he's
a white golden and he doesn't have any
gray so it must also have to do with
color.
They start to get gray hair around the age your dog is now. This is my Febe at 14 years old. http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1423/97鈥?/a>
So they age gracefully. She's about to be 15, and still doesn't have a white mask.
It's normal for her. It's just like people, some go gray early, some go gray later and some never go gray.
Don't worry, it's not a sign of poor health or anything to stress over. My 9 year old dog started going gray at 2 years old and she is still very healthy.
Its probably normal to him. Every dog is different, just like every person is different. Not to mention, larger dogs will go gray a lot faster than smaller dogs.
My parents golden is 8 now and he has been grayish/white for at least a year, maybe more.
You answered the question yourself.
