I love white hair.
People have told me they think it's 'weird' that I haven't started to gray yet, (I'm 57), but it seems 'normal' to me.
BTW, bring it on! I'm not worried - just curious about how much variation there is.When did you first start to go gray? Does gray hair ever turn white?
It will rely on your family background. My parents were grey, not silver
or white. But they weren't totally grey. One of my grandmothers' had
white hair, but her son, my dad, did not. That grandmother turned white in her 50's, and never was grey. She had a sliver sheen to her hair and was often complemented for it's beauty. I have silver strands in my hair, which also darkened when I got older. I have been slow to get these strands and I am in my mid 60's. My husband has silver
and white hair, he started greying when he was in his 30's. His parents greyed when they were younger too. His oldest aunt had silver hair, and was admired by her other sisters, one of which was my husbands' mother. She had auburn hair naturally as a young girl. And it turned an ugly shade of grey. She began coloring it dark brown in her 50's.She and her sisters all wanted that silver hair color in the worst way.
No matter what your true hair color is, you can always
change it to the color you prefer when the time comes. Hair coloring kits are so easy to use at home. Gone are the dyes that made a womans' hair turn from grey to blue, or pink or purple. Thank goodness for that. When did you first start to go gray? Does gray hair ever turn white?
I prefer to refer to mine as ';silver'; has that precious metal ring to it. I started getting a little in my early 30's. I probably have about 90 percent of my hair left so don't car what color it is.
Pretty much all silver now anyway but if I keep it cut short, doesn't look to ';white';. I really notice how bad it is when I see a picture of me outdoors. I have actually asked someone ';Who is the white haired old man in the photo ';,and found out it was me.
Funny how one doesnt see how silver it is until it's on paper or your wife just smiles and nods her head. My chest is that dirty white looking stuff, as it the hair on my back , and ears.
I haven't grayed much yet either. Right now I am starting to see a few strands here and there so maybe by the time I hit 62 I will have some. I am looking forward to it. I think silver or white hair is beautiful. My mom had the most beautiful silver hair and whenever she said she was going to dye it everyone told her not to do it. She had to start dying her hair in her 30s.
My hair started to turn grey when I was a teenager, maybe 16 years old or so, and now, in my late 50s, it's mostly grey with just about 5-10% darker hair mixed in there.
And, just for the record, all ';grey'; hair is white, it's just that when it's salt-and-pepper it looks greyer and when it's all white, it looks whiter, that's all, but each individual strand is white, trust me.
I had a bad shock of news in my late 40's. I got to streaks of white in each temple that week. It has not advanced. It's the same two spots. I use a 1/4 tsp. of hair color on those spots every 4-6 weeks.
My mom passed at 52 y.o. so I don't know her greying pattern. My dad has a full head of white hair at age 80. I don't know what to expect for my future. I'm the youngest of 3 sisters. They are not showing much signs of grey.
I kept one color or another in my hair - until I retired at age 61.
I let it grow out and was quite surprised to see how gray I had become.
It took getting use to.
It's not completely gray and not white at all.
My friends hair is white - her sister applies some sort of lightener and it turns it pure white.
My hair is more like a steel gray - I don't mind but I do agree - I would like white best.
My daughter just turned 51 - she has a fleck or two of gray..
My cousins hair turned prematurely gray by the time she was 29.
DeeJay.
EDIT: I just looked it up - it means the same - gray or grey.
My mom passed away at 53 she had what i would call yellow gray hair at the time. There was 6 of us girls we all started getting gray hair about the age of 50.The funny thing is we all had silver gray.So i would guess your hair could turn white, yellow,or silver gray.I have seen all of these colors on females and males.
I think it depends on genes. The women on my mothers side of the family were all blonde and all went white instead of gray. I remember my grandmother had thick white curly hair that looked like a halo around her head. It was pure white by the time she wass 60 and she never put anything on it.
I was about 45 yrs old when I noticed my hair getting some grey through it...so I started to put a colour in it....but at 50 I let the colour grow out and was surprised to see just I big grey streak across the front of my hair. I'm 60 now and the grey streak doesn't appear to have gotten any bigger....or maybe I need my eyes tested again.
When I was three years old, and had my first flying lesson. When I said what dad said for the first time.
Bleach your hair. Get some dye and do it platinum.
Mine is not grey or white, it is platinum, naturally.
I dyed it red a few weeks ago, guess what color it is?
Not red, just light blond again. Didn't take it.
Guess God wants me blond or platinum.
hear turning gray can be estimated by the age your parents turn gray, if they ever did. it is not uncommon for people to never go gray, and as for turning white, only specific colours of hair turn white, ginger is the most common.
I'm 55, and don't have a gray hair.....yet.
My mom was 56 when she died and she didn't have any either.
Dad got his first gray hairs at 67, died at 77, and just his temples were gray.
I think I'll do the colour thing when it happens.
mine started turning in my late 40's. it's mostly white now in my 70's. I have a son that turned gray in his 30's and my wife's hair it all white and she is in her late 60's
I never had any gray hairs until I had babies in my 30s. Now it is ';salt and pepper';, but I do color it. Looks great with reddish-blonde highlights. So much better than the alternative. I'm in my 60s. My avatar is me 30 years ago.
i found a gray hair in my bangs when i was 24 after my son was born..now at 53, if i didn't die it i would be gray from the temples up, and i don't dye out of vanity with my complexion, gray washes me out! i have enough problems..lol
I'm 25 and I have strands of grey, my best friend is 28 and he is completely bald on top, we call it the horseshoe.
I started graying in my late fifties, I am now 64 and have quite a bit of gray. I keep my hair short, so it is easy to manage. White hair is pretty. Poppy
I was twenty four and it hit me hard. They were and are white. Not grey.
Started in my beard first.
I don't think I will ever be all white. At least it still there .
I'm 68 and I am still a redhead. People start turning grey at various ages. Eventually, some get beautiful white hair. I don't seem to be one of them...yet.
I noticed my first gray hair when I was 12. I'm also in my 50s with salt and pepper gray, mostly around my face. My 14 year old grand-daughter thinks it looks cool.
My hair started to turn salt %26amp; pepper at 45. At 66, It is still salt %26amp; pepper but with more salt and less hair.
I guess my hair will never turn gray. but have been balding since I was 30 so now all I have left is the sides and very little on top....I still like the look..
Of course it turns white. Why wouldn't it. There is no reason why it would not.
started to go ash blonde in my early twenties,I suppose it looks whiteish
My 'gray' has always been white...began in my late 30's..now is a about 60% white and 40% black - I'm now 67
when my kid started getting into trouble
i'm having some white hairs already
I started going gray in my early 40's. I colored my hair for several years.
I had a very high stress job. It seemed like I never needed a color touch-up until my schedule was overwhelming and I had no time to get my hair done.
It got to be a hassle. I finally said the heck with it. So, over my very next vacation I got my hair cut really short and let my gray grow out.
I've never gone back.
I have a lot more white than I used to, but I've always had some. I've had people tell me that I should color my hair. Supposedly I'd look younger. Others tell me that if they had silvery hair like mine, they wouldn't color it.
I'm 62. I look how I look. I'm never coloring my hair again. What a pain.
